Wiki has an interesting page on the bonus army.

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonus_Army

thanks for making me learn something today!

  4. "SIR: Poseyal : KNIGHT of the DESPOSYNI says:

yes history will repaet itself if will do not learn the lessons, and remember the poor iraq / terror vetrans will be treated like shit by the republicans

  5. JustUptown says:

well at least we have learned how to support our troops even if we do not support the war, I remember all too well how the American People treated the Boys who fought in Nam. My elders (cos I really was just a kid) treated them like they were the Enemy instead of just kids doing what their Democratic President told them to.

I think the way we care for Vets has SUCKED since then. I believe they deserve the best of everything, even the illegal aliens that fight in our name.

My Uncle and Grandfather were both Marines. Grandpa served as an engineer at Iwo Jima. And for years after WWII when a plane would go overhead he would hit a doorway, my mum said it scared the shit out of her the first time he did that after returning home.

Uncle was on U-Boats and in the jungles and rice paddies of Nam. I can’t imagine what he saw, did, and his family will probably never know because he still won’t talk about it.

    off my soapbox now….

  6. "SIR: Poseyal : KNIGHT of the DESPOSYNI says:

my grandad blamed my uncle and his generation for loosing the war. it was weird on all sides…

but in their defense, remember they had seen the NAZI’s troops and others try to us our government said to , i was just a soldier etc. and we did not allow them this excusse, . so it’s two fold, yes we must support them , love them, and demand they be brought back home, and we now understand even the nazi’s where not all bad some just where good germans,,,

  7. JustUptown says:

oh i so agree, most of the ‘people’ could give a rat’s ass about war. they don’t have that power trip, all people want really is a home, food, a good life.
the germans were not having too good a life when hitler rose to power, after the reparations from WWI – yeah a good war can bankrupt a country and her people sending them back into the dark ages. and that’s when you do expect your figures of state to do something, i think most of the people of germany were pretty appalled at exactly what hitler did to make their lives ‘better’.

a side note: while watching reruns of Laugh-In (one of my favs as a kid) i’ll be dayumed if they did not hit the year exactly that the wall would come down and the fact that ronnie was president at that time. so the future really is just the present state of comedy.

    enjoyed ur comments.
My own: before 9/11 while wearing uniform serving our country have been called a whore (wasn’t paid enuf for that in truth; if I ever did it would be high-priced Storyville style yes sirree!) ……a baby killer …spit on. Then 9/11 and all of a sudden everyone thank me for being veteran.
    Weird. I hadn’t changed.
Almost got recalled, was gonna try for base out in Algiers, Navy records center had I been. That woulda been cool.

  9. HauntedFleurDeLys says:

oh what I was gonna say b4 I read commentary …sorry I have "brain fuck" today – I learned that word, Sir, from your delete me group btw, lol. Wrote this guy to make sure I would use it properly in the future ….anyway, this also reminded me of "Kent State" ……
Tho it’s not easy to be handed a weapon and have people so hostile
towards you and not shoot, that I must admit. I’ve stood duty where you don’t get sleep, therefore sleep deprivation sets in, you can’t shower even, you stink, and again people calling you names and wanting to spit on you.
I’ve also seen "mob mentality" particularly, no offense, testerone sets it off easier than estrogen for most part ….as "class leader" in navy training schools would often have to literally step into frays. One girl once on New Year’s Eve pulled a train only she had clap or one of her partners did ….anyway so one day there was almost about to literally be a stoning and I had to shut it down real quick.
And yeah I had to do a real Jesus thing there and point out that they wouldn’t be infected had they not gone there!
I really thought she needed counseling cuz no woman does that at a young age even if drunk unless she has serious issues of some sort.

  10. HauntedFleurDeLys says:

oh also timely to post these Sir
ok I think that’s all for now need to facilitate testing soon ….quiet study time right now ……

  11. "SIR: Poseyal : KNIGHT of the DESPOSYNI says:

very nice haunted, it’s funny but with kent state, who if any are really to blame, we all might have done the same in the same shoes,

pulled a train> have not heard that in years, gives new meaning to SOUL TRAIN ; )
oh well bad joke of the day,,,

Baby killer, ( got to love that group ) ( probably wearing plastic shoes, and claiming God on their side )

ever read The Brothers Karamazov Dostoevsky

we all share in the death of a hungry child….

all necessary people are hated . , to some degree it’s this power they fear,,,,,

as to the troups, they often have been treated like whores, this is why i can’t stand haliburton, black water etc…

Our views of things change as time progresses. The human mind works in some pretty warped ways. I was in my late teens and twenties during the Viet Nam war. I remember feeling badly about people who participated in the war. Yet somehow I didn’t have those same feelings about the ones I knew in person.

I drew a lucky number in the draft lottery, but for a period of time it looked like I would be drafted. I had numerous school mates who were starting school after returning from the battle zone. I have seen first hand some of the things the war and their treatment upon returning affected them. There were many things I’m certain they concealed and those of us who didn’t experience will never know or understand.

One of the things I have heard from several who had experienced battle first hand was that no matter what your reasons for going into battle, whether for noble allegiance to country and doing right or because you were forced to be there by the draft system, when the bullets began to fly everyone involved became motivated by one thing. That motivation was the desire for survival.

I would not have felt comfortable about participating in the war. My father and grandfather were both concientious objectors. I considered applying for CO status myself, but while I objected to that war specifically I could not honestly have said I could not take the life of another person under any circumstances, nor could I have honestly stated my objections were based on religious beliefs. Both were requirements for gaining CO status.

I thought about a variety of options, even the possibility of escaping to Canada as many others in my position had done. Ultimately my lucky number ended that quandry.

I had several friends and acquaintances who died in Viet Nam. One died in Cambodia when supposedly we were not there. Looking back I feel some guilt about not having gone myself. Not that I wish to have been a soldier. I could have been one of the journalists recording what was happening. Instead I opted to photograph chamber of commerce meetings and type bowling scores and obituaries for a small town daily paper in the midwest.

I see similarities and differences between the Vietnam era and the current situation. I think the public today whether supportive of the war itself or not is more appreciative of what military personnel have been through and less inclined to blame them for their actions. Sadly I think the government leaders who send our youth into harms way are not much more concerned about their welfare upon return than they were during the earlier conflict.

whoa this is grest so many textures and bright colors

  14. Señor Codo says:

Thanks man. This was a fun collab and our first time of working directly together. We each started with one board did our thing and then exchanged to finish them off. I love how they were shaped by the odd pieces of left over wood we used. I spent some extra time on the background to make it pop.

  15. Nfultr8 says:

WOW! Really celebratory. You work well together.
